Nominal rolls list the names (and occasionally some details) of those who served.

The Nominal Roll for the 2/1st Pioneer Battalion has been extracted from that contained in their history book. There it is stated that it has been compiled from records held by the Central Army Records Office in Melbourne and, that while every effort has been made to ensure that it is complete, the authors of the book “sincerely trust” that no names have been omitted.

Unfortunately there was no Nominal Roll published in the 2/2nd Pioneer Battalion history book.

The Roll of Honour lists those Pioneers who were either killed in action, wounded in action, or were taken prisoner. The Honours and Awards list those who had medals awarded or were mentioned in despatches.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs also has a searchable database of those who served in the Second World War. This can be searched by name, or service number
(see “Links”).

Similarly, the National Archives of Australia has access to numerous catalogues including the service records of those serving in the Second World War (see “Links”).
